Notes On front: "The last cable car line to be placed in service in San Francisco was by the Market Street Railway, running from the Ferry Terminal to 26th and Castro sts. In 1883. After the 1906 earthquake and fire all transportation had to be electric or cable. So the line was made electric to 18th and Castro sts., and because Castro Street was too steep for electric it was kept as cable from 18th and Castro sts. to 26th and Castro sts. The above car number 4 and car number 7 were modified in 1927 and used until the line was closed down at 1:30 AM, April 6th 1941. Castro Street cables were the only cable cars to use fenders front and rear."
