On back: "SAN FRANCISCO-OAKLAND BAY BRIDGE; Walter G. Swanson; 500 Sansome St. - GA rfield 1415; 900.11 B-12/LR. WEST BAY CROSSING - This photograph, taken from Yerba Buena Island, shows Tower W-2 on the San Francisco waterfront, and Piers W-3, W-4, W-5, and W-6, which carry the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge between San Francisco and Yerba Buena Island, a distance of 2 miles. Upon three of these incomplete piers, towers will rise, and Pier W-4 will be the concrete center anchorage between two pairs of steel towers like that on the waterfront. Last week, according to Chief Engineer C. H. Purcell, the submarine work on Piers W-5 and W-3 were completed. 6-1-34". |
