Notes Newscopy: "Here is what happens at the Main Library when you request a non-fiction book from the second floor stack collection. In the first picture, Mary June King looks up a book's file number in the catalog and writes the number on a request slip. Next, she drops it in a box at the main desk. In the third picture, Librarian Clare Pope has picked up Miss King's slip and is selecting the book from a shelf in the stack. To get to the proper shelf, Miss Pope may have to climb as many as six flights of stairs such as those Dorothy Shoemate is descending in the next picture, carrying an arm-load of books. In the last picture, Miss Pope has reached the end of the trail and hands Miss King the books she requested. Now she'll pick up another request slip and take off for another climb.".
