On back: "Laurel Hill Cemetery Assn., Stuart B. Dunbar; 504 deYoung Bldg., DOuglas 4059. Release Friday, Oct. 22. Seventy-six years ago Colonel E. D. Baker, soldier, statesman and orator, fell before Confederate bullets in the battle of Bald Bluff, Virginia. He rests beneath an imposing monument in Laurel Hill Cemetery. Yesterday, on the anniversary of his death, simple, but stirring ceremonies marked the placing of a wreath on his tomb. Flowers for the wreath were gathered under direction of Major Manley B. Gibson, commandant of Fort Baker, named in honor of Colonel Baker, in the post area, and brought by special convoy across the Golden Gate Bridge to Laurel Hill Cemetery where they were laid on the tomb by State Senator Walter McGovern.." |
