Article on back: "JEWISH COMMUNITY CENTER SUMMER HOME CAMP - It takes an entire wall to paint all the activities at Camp Tiyatah, as these young muralists are finding out. Wayne Label (standing), Camp Council president, and (left to right) Judy Brauer and Nancy Kahn are among 156 youngsters enrolled this year at Camp Tiyatah, the six-week Summer Home Camp at the Jewish Community Center, an agency of the Jewish Welfare Federation supported by the United Crusade. "Around the World in Six Weeks" is the theme of this year's encampment in the acre lot behind the Center's building at California Street and Presidio Avenue. Camp Tiyatah is celebrating its 15th year as a camp experience in the city for youngsters from 7 to 14 years of age. The group of 156 boys and girls are organized into "bands", each of which has its own tent for a headquarters and overnite stays. Bands send elected delegates to the Camp Legislature, which assists in developing the program and assuming responsibility for the care and management of the camp. Activities include a miniature farm stocked with animals, gardening, arts and crafts, trading post, campfire pow wows and wienie roasts, sports and a weekly newspaper edited by the campers." |
