Notes Written on bottom of photo: "A TYPICAL ENGINE - of the '50's and early '60's. Broderick No. 1, outside its house on the south side of Sacramento street, just above Kearny street. The company was named after Senator Broderick, who was shot and killed in a duel with Judge David Terry, the outcome of one of the bitterest political contests in that period of political fighting leading up to the causes of the Civil War."
