Note attached to photo: "PICTURE CAPTION: Students at Buena Vista Annex composting leftover food from their lunches as part of their garden and recycling program. Buena Vista Annex is the only school to recycle all leftover food as compost which they use in their garden. Pictured students: Laura Cummingham and Chayo Carnero. ACCOMPANYING ARTICLE: Title: Bringing in the Crops at Buena Vista Annex. The Buena Vista Annex School Garden was started in October in a vacant corner lot near the school. Each class is responsible for planting, maintaining and harvesting their crops in their assigned sections. There is also a section which the staff cultivates. Before school is out the students will be able to harvest fresh salad crops such as lettuce, radishes and onions. Students in the neighborhood will continue the garden program during the summer until school opens in the Fall. The major harvest will take place at that time. The program is coordinated by Ann Kyle from the CETA Garden Project - Neighborhood Art Program and the Mayor's Office Manpower. The on-site coordinator is Mr. Alfonso Iniguez. Article submitted by E. Nell Pumphrey. Contact Ms. Pumphrey for update and try to do article in September."
