Notes Newscopy: "The Rev. Martin Luther King's impassioned plea for stepped-up resistance to segregation last night at the Cow Palace brought $16,000 to the 'Freedom Riders' coffers. In addition, ralley chairman announced, pledges will swell the figure to more than $25,000. An audience of 14,892--including about 1000 whites--sat quietly, with only a few outbursts of clapping, while King told it: ...."
