Notes |
Caption: "THE ROOMS ON PINE STREET--The Club occupied the upper floor. The cage containing the live owl may be seen at the window on the left. The main entrance is beneath the middle window. The Art Association signs being on the right and left of the doorway. This building was destroyed by fire on November 4, 1894, after the Club had ceased to occupy it. The Club had no picture of it, but fortunately a firm of grocers occupying the lower floor had had a photograph taken for its own use, and through the courtesy of one of these gentlemen, Mr. H.A. Bowen, we are enabled to make this reproduction. The picture is delightfully characteristic, as any old member used to meandering among crates, barrels and boxes, on his way to the Club, will testify." |
