Newscopy: "Serious amateur painters and world renowed artists and sculptors line up to register their exhibits at the Palace of Fine Arts in the Marina for the five-day fifth annual S.F. Art Festival, opening tomorrow. The Fifth Annual San Francisco Art Festival opens at 10 a.m. tomorrow in the Palace of Fine Arts. About $2500 in prizes will be awarded to artists with the best exhibits of painting and sculpture. But the festival is not confined to the so-called fine arts--there are also displays of weaving, ceramics and the graphic arts. In addition, there are architectural exhibits by members of the Northern California Chapter of the American Institute of Architects. Each day's program includes a number of special events. Here are the programs for tomorrow and Wednesday. TOMORROW 7 p.m. ...Concert by the Municipal Band. 9 p.m. ...Film, 'Art in the Cinema.' Edith Heath, talk on ceramics. WEDNESDAY 5 p.m. ...Municipal Band concert. 7:45 p.m. ...Moliere's 'Dr. Willy Nilly,' the the Hillbarn Theater. 8 p.m. ...'Living With Art,' a talk by Maurice Sands. 9 p.m. ...A musical recital by members of the Campion Society. The Campion Society's program will include piano works of Bela Bartok, played by Robert Vetlesen; songs of Robert Jones and Manuel de Falla, sung by Allison Ralston; songs of James Swachhamer, Earl Kim and Modest Mussorgski, sung by Walter Matthes. There is no admission charge to the exhibits building or for any of the special events. Some exhibits are for sale." |
