Notes |
Newscopy: "Gouverneur Morris again weds secret bride of year-Gouverneur Morris, novelist, and his bride of nearly a year, Ruth Wightman, who was his secretary and collaborator at Hollywood, Calif., were married again at Salinas, Calif., on Monday July 28, to conform to the California divorce laws. A secret that the couple had kept for almost a year-the fact that they had wed a month after Morris obtained an interlocutory decree of divorce in Los Angeles from his former wife, Elsie Waterbury Morris, became public. Morris' final decree was effective last Saturday. Miss Wightman said they slipped down to Ensenada, Mexico, last September and were married there. Under the California laws, Morris could not legally wed again until last Saturday. Photo shows left to right, Gouverneur Morris, Pola Negri, Charles Chaplin and Miss Ruth Wightman. FM 7-29-24.
