Notes Donor description: Christine and Delfin on the USS President Wilson, sailed from Manila to San Francisco. “Coming to America” – the journey from Manila to San Francisco.
Grandfather came in 1929 from the Philippines, so he joined a segregated Filipino unit that was activated called the first Filipino regiment, served in Leyte, and while he was serving in the army at the end of WW2, he met her grandmother. They married, and he decided to stay. At the end of the war he stayed in the Philippines he used the GI bill to go to college, at the end of WW2 the family decided to come to America. Grandfather came a month ahead in July, got his old job back in Vallejo, and then a month later grandmother, mom and uncle followed.
