Newscopy: "ACME NEWSPICTURES. SAN FRANCISCO BUREAU. SF11219. SAN FRANCISCO HONORS REMAINS OF 'LEPER MARTYR'--The remains of Father Damien, 'Leper Martyr of Molokai'--en route from Molokai Island, Hawaii, to enshrinement in Belgium -- were tendered special honors in San Francisco by civic, religious and other groups. Photo shows Archbishop John J. Mitty of San rancisco conducting services when the casket will remain in state in San Francisco several days before proceeding eastward. Father Damien died in 1889 after devoting his life to lepers on Molokai Island. (BUREAUS) 2-11-36." |
