| Notes |
Newscopy: "For the first time in 20 years, the lagoons at Fisherman's Wharf are being vacuumed. Hundreds of visitors who've come to see fishing boats are seeing, instead, this mammoth dredge and the mudscow alongside. The State Board of Harbor Commissioners owns the equipment, and when it's all done, the lagoons will be a lot more efficient for the more than 200 boats, because new berths are going to be made after a piledriver rams in big piles to separate the boats--two in each berth. The three lagoons will be deepened to 19 feet, which is plenty, since even the largest fishing boats draw only about six feet of water. Each time the bucket hits bottom, it brings up with it 12 tons of muck. A tug then hauls the loaded mudscow out into the Bay for dumping." |
