Description A multipurpose neighborhood center which provides programs for adults, seniors and children. Provides after-school care for children in grades kindergarten through fifth grades attending public elementary schools in the Mission, Excelsior, Bernal Heights, Glen Park, Sunnyside, and Noe Valley areas. Children attending private schools in the same areas may also be served. Also provides summer day camp, family resident camp and recreational activities for children and youth. Provides preschool for children from age 2 years to 5 years. Preschool classes are available for either half or full days, and for five, three or two days a week. Provides aerobics classes which are open to anyone.
Sponsors a senior drop-in center which serves lunch at noon, Monday through Friday. Other services may include support groups, nutrition education, exercise and fitness classes, and a weight management group. Activities may include group trips, crafts, walking groups, guest speakers, holiday events, line dancing, computer classes, t'ai chi, blood pressure screenings, health insurance counseling (including Medicare), legal advice, field trips, bingo, and birthday celebrations. Literacy classes and adult education classes vary according to season. Publishes a monthly newsletter, "Mission Senior Center." Volunteer opportunities are available.
Fee Annual membership fee is $35. Senior lunch is free; suggestion donation is $1.50. Other fees vary.
