Description Founded in 1958, the Golden Gate Council of Hostelling International USA is a nonprofit network of 10 affordable accommodations providing top-quality service, cleanliness, and security to guests in San Francisco, Sacramento, and other Northern California locations. (Please see separate listings for our three hostels in San Francisco.)
The mission of HI-USA Golden Gate Council is to help all, especially the young, gain a greater understanding of the world and its people through hostelling. Our vision is for guests to become caring global citizens who are catalysts for intercultural exchange and understanding stewards of the earth.
HI-USA Golden Gate Council also provides interactive, experiential education programs, Hostel Adventures, for youth and adults that encourage the exploration of our natural environment, our local communities, and other cultures around the world. (Please see separate listing.)
HI-USA memberships are available through the central office and on the web. Membership benefits include travel insurance, worldwide access to commission-free currency exchange, and discounts on hostels, transportation, car rentals, restaurants, city tours, and more.
