| Description |
The VA Medical Center provides substance abuse treatment programs for veterans. The outpatient clinics provide individual, family and group counseling; a complete education series including family education; optional antabuse prescriptions; a methadone clinic (detox and maintenance); and recreational activities. The inpatient unit provides a variable length-of-stay treatment program averaging 14 days. Clients must be sober (Breathalyzer = 0) before admittance. The program includes individual, family and group therapy, occupational therapy, an AA study group, education, optional antabuse prescriptions, and a 2-year outpatient follow-up program. Non-veteran patients may also enroll in treatment programs for alcoholism, heroin addiction, and cocaine abuse if they are willing to participate in medical studies. |
