Description The VA Medical Center provides substance abuse treatment programs for veterans. The outpatient clinics provide individual, family and group counseling; a complete education series including family education; optional antabuse prescriptions; a methadone clinic (detox and maintenance); and recreational activities. The inpatient unit provides a variable length-of-stay treatment program averaging 14 days. Clients must be sober (Breathalyzer = 0) before admittance. The program includes individual, family and group therapy, occupational therapy, an AA study group, education, optional antabuse prescriptions, and a 2-year outpatient follow-up program. Non-veteran patients may also enroll in treatment programs for alcoholism, heroin addiction, and cocaine abuse if they are willing to participate in medical studies.
Eligibility Veteran with honorable or general discharge. Non-veteran must be willing to participate in medical studies.
