| Description |
The Sunset Neighborhood Beacon Center (SNBC) is a nonprofit partnership providing activities, support and opportunities for youth and adults who live, work, or attend school in the Sunset District. Works with organizations, individuals, and City agencies to improve the quality of life in the community. Based at A.P. Giannini Middle School, Francis Scott Key, Sunset, and Ulloa Elementary Schools, the center provides a safe place for youth and families to learn and grow. Offers classes for students in grades 1-12 and for adults in a variety of areas: scholastic improvement, recreation, and artistic skills/cultural enrichment. Also offers juvenile justice case management and family counseling services. The San Francisco Experience Corps works to recruit, train, and place older adults with children as tutors and mentors. The Safety Network Partnership conducts outreach and education to advocate for positive change and community safety. The SBNC Community Council is an advisory and planning voice for the Beacon. It is made up of Sunset residents, community-based organizations, parents, neighborhood volunteers and youths. |
