Description Located in Golden Gate Park, the Gardens provides displays of plants from around the world suited to the central coastal region of California. The San Francisco Botanical Garden Society sponsors educational programs that promote public awareness of plants and the environment that includes lectures, workshops, classes and trips. It maintains the Helen Crocker Russell Library of Horticulture, which houses a specialized collection of books, magazines, slides and videos. Provides a bookstore which sells horticulture books and gifts. Offers tours for elementary and high school students and free, daily docent led walks for everyone. Offers volunteer opportunities as arboretum docents; assisting in the nursery, library, bookstore and other assignments. Sponsors plant sales throughout the year. Publishes a quarterly newsletter, the Leaflet, for members.
Fee Free admission. Annual membership begins at $60. There are fees for some programs with reduced rates for members.
