Description Offers an 18-hour course series of workshops (3 hours each), six times per year. The series is for family-caregivers of individuals with HIV/AIDS, emphysema, brain tumors, chronic obstructive lung disease or cancer, and for patients caring for themselves. The curriculum includes: an overview of the illnesses and their treatments; pain and symptom management; infection control in the home; recognizing and dealing with mental changes; hands-on training in bodymechanics and bedcare skills; and explanation of legal issues regarding wills, powers of attorney and financial management. Also provides information on accessing and organizing personal and community resources and on making arrangements when someone dies. This program is not designed to train volunteers of professional caregivers.
Workshop series are at local hospital conference facilities. Pre-registration is required. In-service training in a variety of health and caregiver related topics is available to community service providers and their staff. Contact Celi Adams, RN, for in-service training information.
