Description The VA Medical Center provides general medical, surgical and psychiatric services for veterans. Inpatient and outpatient services include arthritic rheumatology, cardiology, dermatology, endocrinology, ear, nose, and throat care, gastrointestinal care, hematology, hemodialysis, infectious disease, neurology, neurosurgery, nuclear medicine, heart surgery, ophthalmology, orthopedics, plastic surgery, podiatry, psychiatric care, respiratory care, general surgery, comprehensive women's services, medical research, homeless care, and social work. Offers limited dental care, eye glasses, and prosthetics based on eligibility. Provides a clinic for AIDS-related illnesses. Coordinates a volunteer program to visit people with AIDS.
Operates a nursing home care unit with 120-bed capacity. The nursing home care unit also offers a respite care program and the Palliative Care program (a 7-bed unit within the nursing home care unit for terminally ill patients who wish to receive comfort care only).
Also provides an aphasia group (a functional communication and social club) for individuals recovering from a stroke. The group meets on Friday from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., Building 1, Ground Floor, Room 7C. Accepts donations of old magazines dating back to 1950 or 1960. Fee Sliding scale; based on ability to pay. Private insurance accepted.
Application Call for appointment or walk in (preferably during office hours). Referral from a primary care provider is required for psychiatric program evaluation.
