Description Refugee Transitions is a volunteer-based education and social service organization that provides home-based ESL (English as a Second Language) and civics tutoring to recent refugee and immigrant families. Volunteers commit 2-4 hours each week for a six-month period of home-based tutoring. For the adult program, volunteers help limited English speaking adults access vital community resources using English. For the youth program, volunteers provide academic assistance and mentorship for refugee youth while promoting parent empowerment and addressing school related needs. Eligibility Based on income, arrival date in United States, past education, language ability, and circumstances which require instruction at home. Priority given to those with very limited English proficiency, and limited education in their native land.
