| Description |
Provides comprehensive medical benefits (insurance) to eligible individuals. Medi-Cal pays for health care services which are medically necessary. Covered services include: physician and dental visits; hospitalization; some prescriptions and medications; home health care; mental health services; adult day health services; prosthetic and orthopedic devices; eyeglasses; hearing aids; and some medical equipment. Some services and drugs require prior authorization. |

Administers the Cash Assistance Linked to Medi-Cal (CALM) program which provides cash payments twice a month for recipients of Medi-Cal because of age (65 and over), blindness, or disability (as determined by the California Disability Determination Service Division). CALM is a component of the County Adult Assistance program. Administers the Cash Assistance Program for Immigrants (CAPI) which provides cash benefits to aged or disabled immigrants who have been denied SSI because of their immigration status. |
| Eligibility |
Medi-Cal: California resident; blind, disabled, pregnant, under 21, over 64, parent of a child under 21, in a skilled nursing facility, or refugee; and meet income and property reserve guidelines. People receiving TANF, SSA/SSI or Refugee Cash Assistance, are automatically eligible. Minors age 12 or over may apply under certain circumstances. Benefits are also available for kidney dialysis and transplants. CALM: Medi-Cal recipient; disabled, blind or 65 or older; San Francisco resident; meet income guidelines; and have Social Security number. CAPI: Legal immigrant; disabled or age 65 or older; denied SSI due to immigrant status; and meet income and resource guidelines. If date of legal entry is on or after August 22, 1996, the immigrant's sponsor may also have to meet income and resource guidelines. |
