Description Works in partnership with people with disabilities to protect, advocate and advance their human, legal, and service rights. Services include information and referrals to other sources of assistance, peer and self-advocacy training, discrimination assistance related to housing, transportation, employment and access to public and private services, investigation of abuse and neglect, legal counseling, and representation in administrative and judicial proceedings. Publishes related materials available for a fee; all publications are available online via PAI's Web site. Volunteer and internship opportunities are available. There are other PAI offices located in Oakland, San Diego and Los Angeles.
Operates the Office of Patients' Rights (OPR) under contract with the California Department of Mental Health. OPR advocates for the rights of individuals with psychiatric disabilities in state hospitals and provides support and legal information to patients' rights advocates, an information clearinghouse on mental health, and reviews of mental health programs throughout California. OPR is located at 100 Howe Avenue, Suite 240-N, Sacramento, CA 95825, 800-254-5166.
Operates the Office of Clients' Rights Advocacy (OCRA) under contract with the California Department of Developmental Services. OCRA provides clients' rights advocacy to individuals with developmental disabilities who are clients of California's 21 regional centers. OCRA is located at 100 Howe Avenue, Suite 240-N, Sacramento, CA 95825, 800-390-7032.
