| Description |
Provides free one-to-one HIV/STD counseling, testing and linkage services to gay and bisexual men; men who have sex with men; and to all trangendered men who are residents of San Francisco. Counselors offer confidential services at various sites throughout San Francisco. Testing methods include both rapid testing (HIV test results ready at the end of the session), and standard testing (return in one week for test results). Offers mental health services, peer-led support groups and men-connecting workshops. Ongoing and time-limited groups include Sex & Sobriety; Man to Man: Groups for HIV-Negative Gay and Bisexual Men; New Positives; Positive Recovery; and People Considering Returning to Work (for HIV positive individuals). All groups (except drop-in groups) require a needs-assessment interview. |

Drop-in groups include HIV Positive/People with AIDS, at 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., on Monday; HIV Negative and Untested Gay and Bisexual Men, at 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., on Wednesday; ASAP (AIDS Substance Abuse and Prevention) drop-in group at 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., on Thursday for substance users with HIV concerns; and Reality Check: Sex, Drugs, and Alcohol, at 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., on Monday for gay men who are abstaining or trying to abstain from using drugs. Ongoing support groups include: facilitated HIV positive groups (asymptomatic, symptomatic, AIDS diagnosed and Kaposi's Sarcoma); facilitated (10 week) HIV negative groups for gay and bisexual men; and Friends, Family, and Lovers facilitated groups for caregivers, including one specifically for women. These groups usually meet every week in the afternoon and evening at various locations. |

Provides crisis mental health services for HIV-positive or AIDS-diagnosed individuals. Services include: crisis assessment; brief crisis-oriented psychotherapy; home visits and outreach for psychiatric evaluation and follow-up care. Provides consultation to other mental health agencies. |

Provides referrals to San Francisco AIDS Foundation (SFAF) and Shanti for supportive services including benefits advocacy (General Assistance, Social Security benefits, Food Stamps, Medi-Cal, etc., and a weekend workshop on disability benefits) and practical support such as shopping, laundry, and cleaning. |

Publishes the "AHP Events and Services" a quarterly newsletter; "Focus: A Guide to AIDS Research and Counseling," a newsletter for AIDS/HIV service providers which reviews the counseling aspects of AIDS; and "Perspectives," an educational resource for HIV test counselors and other health professionals. Offers volunteer opportunities. |
