Description Provides comprehensive legal services to people with AIDS/HIV through referrals to a panel of volunteer attorneys. Services include assistance with wills and both durable and general powers of attorney; assistance with landlord/tenant disputes including discrimination; assistance with employment discrimination and harassment; assistance with family law issues. Other civil legal matters may be handled as well. No criminal cases are handled.
Works to improve the legal status of people with AIDS/HIV at local, state, and national levels. Produces and distributes brochures dealing with the legal rights of people with AIDS/HIV and publishes a legal manual dealing with AIDS/HIV. The Outreach Program provides speakers and workshops to AIDS/HIV service providers and other organizations on legal issues involving AIDS/HIV. The program also arranges for legal clinics at AIDS/HIV service providers' offices. Publishes a newsletter, "Panel Notes," quarterly.
Eligibility Individual with AIDS/HIV or legal problems related to AIDS/HIV.
Fee Sliding scale; some services are free.
Application Call for intake interview. Appointments are required for clinics.
