Description Provides information and referral to caregivers and family members of individuals with Alzheimer's disease or with concerns about their memory. Offers telephone-helpline support for individuals caring for family members with dementia or individuals diagnosed with the disease personally; and an online helpline to request information via the Internet. Sponsors mutual support groups for friends and family of individuals affected by Alzheimer's disease. Groups include Introduction to Memory Loss and Alzheimer's Disease, which provides an overview of the disease and steps families and caregivers need to prepare for in the future. Provides a speakers bureau on related topics. Advocates on a statewide and national level for public policy related to Alzheimer's disease.
Sponsors Dementia Educational Forums (DEF) throughout the Bay Area on various topics for family members and caregivers; call for information. Supports related research. Provides related materials including books, pamphlets and fact sheets. Maintains a video library. Publishes a quarterly newsletter "Alzheimer's Newsletter." Offers volunteer opportunities. An Additional branch office is located in the East Bay at 251 Lafayette Circle, Suite 350, Lafayette, 925-284-7942. Other local offices are located in Santa Cruz, Monterey, San Rafael, Santa Rosa, Sacramento, Paradise and Reno.
