Description The Holocaust Center of Northern California is dedicated to the education, documentation, research, and remembrance of the Holocaust. The Holocaust Center has led the effort to increase awareness among the general public about the causes and consequences of racism, anti-Semitism, intolerance and indifference during the Holocaust and today.
The Holocaust Center’s University level library, The Laszlo N. Tauber Library and Research Center, collects books dealing with every aspect of the Holocaust, and makes them available for use on the premises by students, scholars, researchers, and the general public. The HCNC collection focuses on: Jewish life in Europe before the Holocaust; Nazi rise to power and propaganda; Nazi racial theory, anti-Semitism; anti-Jewish policy and persecution in Germany and occupied countries; flight, emigration and refugee life; Nazi occupation of conquered Europe; deportation and execution of Jewish communities; ghettos and concentration camps (transit, labor and extermination); reaction of world community to events; resistance and partisan activities; liberation; war trials; post-war displaced persons and immigration; Holocaust memorials; and Holocaust denial. The Laszlo N. Tauber Library is a non-circulating library and is not available for interlibrary loan.
Education programs for students include the Survivor Speakers Bureau, Manovill Holocaust History Seminar for 10th-12th grade students, the Morris Weiss Writing Contest and the annual Day of Learning. Education programs for adults include the Day of Learning, film screenings and lectures. Workshops for educators are also held several times a year.
